For Geo’s System Design Library, the research phase focused on deeply understanding the challenges faced by energy professionals and developers in designing and implementing smart energy systems. We engaged with a diverse group of stakeholders, including system integrators, sustainability consultants, and IoT developers, to gather insights into their workflows and pain points. A recurring theme was the need for a centralized, reliable resource that could simplify complex energy system design while accommodating varying levels of technical expertise. We also explored emerging trends in energy technology, such as grid integration and renewable energy systems, to ensure the library would remain future-proof. Drawing from past successes, such as transforming an underperforming app into a WCAG-compliant product that boosted conversion rates by 60%, we prioritized accessibility and usability in our research. This approach highlighted the importance of creating a tool that was not only technically robust but also adaptable to real-world scenarios, ensuring it could serve as a trusted resource for both novice and advanced users.
The design of Geo’s System Design Library was driven by the principle of making complex energy system design accessible and efficient. We adopted a modular approach, breaking down systems into reusable components that users could easily customise and integrate. The interface was designed with clarity in mind, using a hierarchical structure to organise content logically, from foundational concepts to advanced configurations. Visual aids, such as interactive diagrams and flowcharts, were incorporated to help users visualise system interactions and dependencies. We reduced workload for UI/UX designers and developers by 30%, we ensured consistency across devices and platforms. Motion graphics were also integrated to enhance interactivity and visual appeal, while mock-ups were rigorously tested and validated with users to gather feedback and refine the design. The result was a library that not only streamlined the design process but also empowered users to innovate with confidence, aligning with Geo’s mission to drive smarter energy solutions.
